Cabbages and Condoms: Tasty Thai Food With A Cheeky Twist

Cabbages and Condoms Restaurant has been feeding Bangkok locals and first time visitors to the city for years, with all profits donated to the Population & Community Development Association (PDA), an organisation focused on sexual health, sex education and AIDS prevention.

The restaurant has a modern and airy decor with a few cheeky surprises! Life sized mannequins dressed entirely in condoms greet you on arrival – Captain Condom, the safe sex superhero, a bride dressed in a rubber gown, and even a red condom clad Father Christmas!

Whilst this is a humorous way to get restaurant guests talking about the issues, our favourite part of the restaurant has to be the terrace. It’s a beautiful, and dare we say romantic place to have dinner, with hundreds of twinkling fairy lights hanging from the trees, a manmade waterfall, and live Thai music to enjoy.

There is plenty of seating both inside and out, and although this place does get busy, there’s usually enough space for everyone and we’ve never had to book ahead.

The menu is jam packed with all the usual Thai staples; Pad Thai, Chicken and Cashew Nuts, Spring Rolls and Sticky Rice to name but a few. However, our personal favourites have to be the delicious Massaman Curry, and the Chicken Satay- the chef’s peanut sauce is a real winner!

The menu is extensive, so if dining in with a group, ordering a selection of dishes and sharing will ensure you get a taste of everything!

Whilst the food is very tasty, it is not what we would describe as ‘Thai spicy’, and is very much geared towards a more Western palette (read: for wimps like us who don’t like things too spicy). If you have become accustomed to the heat of Thai cuisine, we would recommend simply asking the helpful staff if your dish can be made a little more spicy.

Due to the wonderful atmosphere, it’s pretty much guaranteed you’ll want to stick around after dinner for a few drinks to soak up the good vibes.

The cocktail list here is impressive, with the usual Mojitos and Martinis on offer. Our recommendation would have to be a ‘Bangkok Night’- a mix of rum, amoretto, pineapple juice, grenadine and a dash of lemon!

When you leave don’t forget to pick up a free after dinner condom, and have a giggle in the on site gift shop.

We love the fun and educational theme of Cabbages and Condoms, as well as the charity twist behind it all. It’s a great place to take friends or spend a romantic evening with a loved one while you enjoy the delicious food, great service and know that your Baht is being donated to a worthwhile charitable cause.
